France/Sports betting: LFP intends to increase its betting fees from 1% to 2% in July 2025

The Ligue de Football Professionnel sent a letter to sports betting operators on 14/04 announcing its intention to increase its betting rights fees on football bets to 2%, News Tank Football learned on 25/04/2025.

A consultation phase is now open on this subject. In the event of disagreement at the end of this phase, sports betting operators, who are opposed "to this 100% increase" according to the French sports daily L'Équipe, could refer the matter to the competition authority or a court.

The fee has been set at 1% since 2010, when the League obtained the right to market the organisation of sports betting on its competitions to operators approved by the ANJ. According to L'Équipe, this remuneration would enable the LFP to recover between €8-9m. The current terms and conditions concerning this remuneration will expire on 30/06/2025. The LFP would like to increase this percentage to 2%, the same level as that set by the Paris 2024 COJOP.
