France/Ligue 1 TV rights: DAZN-LFP agreement to end contract at the end of 2024-25 (press)

The Ligue de Football Professionnel and the OTT platform DAZN have reached an agreement for the early termination, at the end of the 2024-25 season, of their contract to broadcast the Ligue 1 McDonald's in France, according to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 30/04/2025.

DAZN acquired, at the end of July 2024, the domestic TV rights to eight (out of nine) Ligue 1 McDonald's games per matchday for an average of €400m per year over the 2024-2029 cycle and would have to pay the LFP €100m in compensation for the early termination of the contract. This compensation would not be paid, however, if the LFP were to join forces with DAZN to launch its own channel dedicated to broadcasting matches, according to L'Équipe, which added that the proposal to terminate the current contract will be presented to the LFP's board of directors on Friday 02/05/2025.

The two parties could therefore end their collaboration in the first year, although they each had an exit clause after two seasons, activable on 01/12/2025, if DAZN did not reach 1.5 million subscribers. DAZN now has nearly 700,000…
