Germany/DFB: a record 4 million spectators in the 3.Liga in 2024-25 after 35 matchdays (out of 38)

For the first time since its creation in 2008, the 3.Liga will reach the four-million mark in terms of cumulative spectator attendance over a single season in the 2024-25 season, according to the Deutscher Fussball Bund on 28/04/2025.

At the end of Matchday 35 (of 38) in Germany's third tier (25-27/04/2025), a total of 4,003,613 spectators turned out for 349 matches, well ahead of the previous record of 3.689 million set at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Matchday 35 of the 2024-25 season of the competition organised by the DFB, also became the second best-attended in the league's history, with 144,714 spectators. The previous record - a total of 150,413 people in the stands - was set on Matchday 30 during the same season.

"With three weeks to go, the average attendance in 3.Liga is 11,472 per match, the first season with a five-figure average. With these attendances, Germany's third division is the most popular in the world," said the DFB. In 2023-24, the 3.Liga had an average of around 9,700 spectators per match, "tied with England's League One."
