FIFA Club World Cup 2025: LA FC - Club América play-off to decide who will replace Club Léon

A play-off match between Los Angeles FC (MLS) and Club América (Liga MX) will be organised to determine the team that will take part in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in place of Club Léon (Liga MX), whose exclusion from the competition has been confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, announced FIFA on 06/05/2025.

Club Léon was excluded from the competition by the international body on 21/03/2025 after disciplinary proceedings were opened against the club and CF Pachuca, another club from the Mexican first division. The two teams are in fact owned by the same shareholder (Grupo Pachuca) and had allegedly failed to comply with multi-club ownership rules (see below). Both clubs challenged the sanction before CAS, which rejected their appeal on 06/05/2025.
