Portugal: Sport TV extend its rights to the Champions League and Europa League to 2015-2018

Sport TV has retained its broadcasting rights to the Champions League and Europa League for the 2015-2018 cycle in Portugal, announced Bessa Tavares, director of the Portuguese pay-TV group, on 13/04/2015. The sum paid for the acquisition was not disclosed, but it is "significantly" higher than that paid for the 2012-2015 cycle, said Bessa Tavares.

For the 2015-2018 cycle, Sport TV holds the live broadcasting rights to 145 Champions League matches each season, with one match per week of the competition co-broadcast with the the public broadcaster RTP. The pay-TV group is also the exclusive broadcaster of summaries of all Champions League matches in Portugal.

  • Sport TV also has the 2015-2018 live TV rights to all Europa League games.
  •  The private free-TV channel SIC (Sociedade Independente de Comunicação) will broadcast one Europa League match live and free-to-air for each week of competition.
