Barclays Women's Super League: Alexis Ohanian acquires 10% minority stake in Chelsea Women for £20m

American Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of the platform Reddit and former owner of Angel City FC (NWSL), has acquired a 10% stake in Chelsea Women (Barclays Women's Super League), announced Chelsea FC (Premier League) on 15/05/2025.

Ohanian who is carrying out the deal via his venture capital company Seven Seven Six has paid around £20m (€23.7m) to become a minority shareholder in the London club, according to several British media outlets.

"Last year, Chelsea Women repositioned itrself within the club to provide the opportunity for investment specifically to support women's football. Alexis' investment provides further validation of this strategy as well as additional resources and capital to drive Chelsea's continued leadership globally," explained the club, winners of the Barclays Women's Super League for the sixth consecutive year in 2024-25.
