"Steve Simon (born 1955), WTA chairman, has informed the WTA board of directors of his intention to retire after a decade of service to the WTA and will step down from his role in December," announced the governing body of the women's professional tennis tour on 15/05/2025.

The American has held the position of WTA chairman since 2015. "To ensure a smooth transition, the Board will now begin a comprehensive selection process for the chair position, supported by the global executive search firm Elevate Talent," said the governing body.

The WTA evolved its leadership structure in 2024, appointing Portia Archer as CEO on 29/07/2024, splitting the roles of executive president and CEO that Steve Simon has held since his appointment. "This past summer (2023) I shared with the WTA board that if the WTA is going to remain at the forefront of women's sports, we need to go through a full review of our organisational structure. I do think it's in the best interests of the organisation because it's grown so much over these last eight years," said Steve Simon to BBC Sport on 12/12/2023.
