Africa: CAF signs partnership with the European Commission to develop youth football

The Confederation of African Football and the European Commission have signed a collaborative partnership aimed at aligning "their development initiatives rooted in their share values of inclusion, fair play, and opportunity across the Continent," announced the two parties on 18/05/2025.

The agreement covers the 2025 and 2027 editions of the TotalEnergies AFCON, the TotalEnergies 2024 Women's AFCON and the CAF African School Football Championship. The partnership is designed to highlight the societal projects supported by the European Commission as part of its Global Gateway strategy. The institution has invested €150bn in an Africa-Europe plan to strengthen cooperation with African partners and finance infrastructure projects.

"The main focus of our cooperation with Africa is creating new opportunities - new jobs, quality health system, improved public services, new partnerships.
