United Kingdom: Warner close to acquiring the remaining 50% of TNT Sports from BT (press)

Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly close to buying the 50% stake in the TNT Sports group that it does not own from the telecoms operator BT Group, the entity with which the American group set up the joint venture, according to the British daily the Financial Times on 17/05/2025.

TNT Sports was created in May 2022 as a joint venture between BT Sport (BT Group) and Eurosport UK (Warner Bros. Discovery) in the UK and Ireland, and the transaction was finalised on 01/09/2022. The new entity was subsequently launched on 18/07/2023 in the UK and Ireland, replacing the BT Sport package. According to the Financial Times, Warner has a clause in the joint venture agreement allowing it to buy out BT's stake in TNT Sports before the end of 2026.

TNT Sports posted revenues of £1.154bn (€1.37bn to 31/07/2024) during the financial year 2024 (01/08/2023 to 31/07/2024), up 5.6% on the financial year 2023 (£1.093bn/€1.3bn), according to accounts published on 24/04/2025. The UK broadcaster also posted a pre-tax loss of £187.56m (€222.7m), compared with a deficit of £73.43m (€87.2m) in 2023.
