Tennis: $800m investment to modernise the US Open site in New York, delivery scheduled for 2027

The United States Tennis Association has presented the plan to modernise the facilities used for the US Open (Grand Slam) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (New York, USA), on 19/05/2025.

This project, valued at $800m (€716m) and entirely financed by the USTA, represents "the largest single investment in US Open history," according to the Federation. Taking into account the latest infrastructure project completed in 2018, the USTA has invested "nearly $2bn into the US Open and its home facility, without using any public, taxpayer or government funding."

The USTA plans to modernise Arthur Ashe Stadium, the centre court inaugurated in 1997 (22,547 seats), with "a 40% increase to the promenade-level concourse, adding significantly more open space for fans at the promenade and loge levels" and by integrating 2,000 new seats on the "upward extension of the courtside-level bowl" to increase the capacity of this area from 3,000 to 5,000 seats.
