FFF: 1.2 million tCO2e generated in 2022-23, including 57% from travel

The Fédération Française de Football's carbon footprint for the 2022-23 season amounts to 1.2 million tCO2e, equivalent to the annual footprint of 130,000 French people, according to data released by the FFF on 02/06/2025.

It should be noted that 20% of this carbon footprint relates to the body's direct emissions, i.e. those associated with the FFF's headquarters and sites (including the Clairefontaine National Football Centre), as well as its official vehicles, "with greater scope for reducing them". The remaining 80% are indirect emissions "shared with partners, licence-holders and the public, requiring teamwork to collectively implement solutions," explained the Federation, each of whose registered players generated 0.5 tCO2e during the 2022-23 season.

In total, 57% of the FFF's direct and indirect carbon footprint comes from travel (players, staff, organisers and spectators), which is well ahead of the other main sources of emissions: energy and operations (in particular heating and air conditioning at venues), which is responsible for 18% of emissions, and equipment and…
