LALIGA: a 65% decline in racist insults on social media during the 2024-25 season

Racist insults made in discussions related to LALIGA EA Sports on social networks in Spain fell by 65% during the 2024-25 season compared to 2023-24, according to LALIGA on 03/06/2025.

These figures have been compiled thanks to the MOOD platform, an observatory of hate in sport on social media developed as part of the "LALIGA VS" project, itself aimed at combating hate speech in football. The figures are based on "21.9 million messages written by more than seven million users this season," explained the Spanish league. Alongside the decline in racist messages, hate speech also fell by 13%.

The Spanish League has also developed an index to measure the ratio between positive and negative messages surrounding matches (from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest level of negative discourse). This stands at 6.2 for the 2024-25 season, compared with 6.5 in 2023-24.
