CONMEBOL: Paraguay's Alejandro Domínguez re-elected president until 2031

Alejandro Dominguez was unanimously re-elected president of CONMEBOL at the 81^st Ordinary Congress of the South American confederation, held at its headquarters in Luque, near Asuncion (PAR), on 12/06/2025.

Elected in 2016 and re-elected for the first time in 2022, the Paraguayan will see his new term of office run until April 2031. Between now and then, CONMEBOL territory will host two major international competitions: the 10^th Women's World Cup in Brazil in 2027, and the first three matches of the 2030 World Cup (mainly organised in Spain, Portugal & Morocco) in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to celebrate the Centenary of the tournament (first held in Uruguay in 1930). The former president of the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) recently indicated that he would even like the men's World Cup to be held, exceptionally, with 64 teams, which would allow South America to host more matches.

Among the other projects that Alejandro Domínguez will be working on is the economic recovery for clubs. "We don't want clubs in debt, we want strong clubs. We want players to be paid on time…
