Qatar 2022: The Supreme Committee presents the Al Rayyan Stadium (capacity 40,000)

The Supreme Committee for the Delivery & Legacy of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has unveiled the plans for the Al Rayyan Stadium (40,000 seats) on 23/04/2015.

The Al Rayyan Stadium will be built on the site of the former stadium of the Al Rayyan Sports Club (the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium) which was recently demolished. After its competition and use in the 2022 World Cup, the stadium's capacity will be reduced to 21,000 seats. The top tiers of the enclosure's ring will be removed and "sent to developing nations in need of sports infrastructure," announced the Supreme Committee.

The stadium will be accompanied by infrastructure that can be used by the local population of Al Rayyan, including a mosque, a members club, a running track, a cricket pitch, tennis courts, a hockey field, football training pitches, an aquatics center, a skate park and a velodrome. The complex will also house a branch of the sports medicine hospital Aspetar.
