Multi-club ownership/2025-26 Conference League: CAS upholds exclusion of Irish club Drogheda United

"The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed an appeal by Drogheda United FC (League of Ireland Premier Division) against UEFA concerning a decision to remove the club from the UEFA Conference League 2025-26, due to non-compliance with the UEFA Regulations on multiclub ownership," announced CAS on 16/06/2025.

"Both DUFC and Silkeborg IF (Danish Superliga), who also qualified for the competition, are owned by Trivela Group, a US based investment entity," said the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

DUFC had appealed against the decision made by UEFA's Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) on 05/06/2025. According to the body, Drogheda United "did not comply with the multi-club ownership criteria in UEFA's Conference League Regulations (Art.5.01) as of the assessment date of 01/03/2025". The club had justified its appeal by stating that it had not been informed that this evaluation date, initially scheduled for 03/06/2025, had been brought forward.
