Amazon: first acquisition of sports rights in the Netherlands with the Premier League (2025-2028)

The American group Amazon has acquired the exclusive broadcasting rights, under sub-licence from the Swedish audiovisual group Viaplay, to 38 Premier League matches per season in the Netherlands over the 2025-2028 cycle (i.e. three seasons), announced the group on 17/06/2025.

Amazon will broadcast in this territory, via its Prime Video platform, the Saturday match (kick-off at 12:00 local time, 13:30 CET) on each Premier League matchday. The game will be available at no extra cost to Prime Video subscribers. This is Amazon's first acquisition of sports rights in the Netherlands.

The Swedish broadcasting group initially acquired the exclusive full broadcasting rights to the Premier League in the Netherlands (as well as Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) for the 2022-2028 cycle on 07/07/2021. However, Viaplay has decided to withdraw from a number of markets in 2024 and to "concentrate its activities in the Nordic countries and the Netherlands" due to poor financial performance.
