Euroleague: "We're working on an expansion plan with more than 20 teams" (P. Motiejunas, CEO)

"We are thinking about the next expansion (of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague). Teams want to join us. We are working on a plan with more than 20 teams, in particular 24. But we want to keep the competitiveness of the Euroleague and respect national calendars. The aim is to grow without upsetting the balance of the European basketball ecosystem," said Paulius Motiejunas, CEO of Euroleague Basketball, at a press conference on 20/06/2025.

The Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA) shareholders' meeting approved the move to 20 teams in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, as well as the schedule and regulations for the 2025-26 season, on 19/06/2025. While Alba Berlin (easyCredit BBL) has decided to leave the competition to join the Basketball Champions League (BCL) organised by FIBA, Hapoel Tel-Aviv (ISR, winners of the BKT EuroCup), Valencia Basket Club (ESP) and Dubai Basketball (UAE, ABA League) will be the three new teams in 2025-26.
