France: Olympique Lyonnais administratively relegated to Ligue 2 BKT by the DNCG

Olympique Lyonnais (Ligue 1 McDonald's) have been administratively relegated to Ligue 2 BKT by the Commission de Contrôle des Clubs Professionnels as part of the examination process of the clubs' status for the 2025-26 season, announced the LFP on 24/06/2025.

The DNCG, which had already ordered such a measure as a precautionary decision when examining the club's situation for the 2024-25 season, was not convinced by the arguments of Eagle Football Group, owner of Olympique Lyonnais, which announced the sale of Rayan Cherki to Manchester City FC (Premier League) for €42.5m (including a €6m bonus) on 10/06, two weeks before the sale of Eagle Football Holdings' (EFG's parent company) stake (around 44%) in Crystal Palace FC (Premier League), which could bring in £190m (€222m) according to the British media BBC and The Guardian, on 23/06/2025.
