Netherlands: Ajax, which owns 13% of the Amsterdam ArenA, want to become a majority shareholder

Ajax Amsterdam (Eredivisie) want to become the majority shareholder of the Amsterdam ArenA (53,000 seats), the stadium in which the club plays, revealed the Dutch weekly Voetbal International on 22/04/2015.

The club currently has a 13% share of the stadium, compared to the 48% held by the City of Amsterdam. Eight companies own the remaining 39% of the enclosure, which opened in 1996. Ajax are reportedly aiming to acquire an additional 38%, meaning that they would own 51% of the stadium. This would allow the club to gain control of Stadion Amsterdam NV, the company that operates the enclosure. The planned acquisition is currently being discussed by the club management and the supervisory board. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed by Ajax.
