Spain: Abu Dhabi Sports Council partners with the Spanish League for sports exchanges

The Spanish LFP have signed an agreement with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (an organisation that supports the country's clubs and sports institutions) for the organisation of various events in the United Arab Emirates, announced the league on 27/04/2015. The three-year contract will end in 2017.

The agreement includes the organisation of friendly matches between Liga BBVA and Abu Dhabi clubs in the summer of 2015, organising tournaments between training centres, knowledge sharing programmes and coach exchange programmes.

  • The stadium of Real Madrid CF (Liga BBVA) is likely be renamed the "Abu Dhabi Bernabéu", announced the Spanish daily AS on 28/01/2015.
  • The name change is the result of the partnership between IPIC (International Petroleum Investment Company), an Emriati investment fund that is 100% owned by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and run by members of the royal family, and Real Madrid on 28/10/2014.
