MotoGP: Liberty Media completes acquisition of 84% of Dorna Sports for €4.3bn

Liberty Media, which has owned Formula One Group since 2017, has completed the acquisition of 84% of Dorna Sports SL, the exclusive commercial and TV rights holder of MotoGP, from Bridgepoint and Canadian institutional investment fund CPPIB for €4.3bn, announced the US communications, media and entertainment group on 03/07/2025.

The group had initially indicated that it would acquire 86% of Dorna Sports for €4.2bn on 02/04/2024. This acquisition was subject to approval by the regulatory authorities in several jurisdictions. The European Commission approved it on 23/06/2025, while Liberty Media had "received the necessary regulatory approvals in all other jurisdictions to close the acquisition," stated the group on 23/06.

"Following transaction close, Liberty Media’s Formula One Group is composed of its subsidiaries Formula 1, MotoGP and Quint, and other minority investments," added Liberty Media. The directors of the Spanish company (including Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports) will retain a 14% stake.
