FIFA: Suriname becomes the 1st country to announce it will vote for Michael van Praag on 29/05/2015

The SVB (Surinaamse Voetbal Bond, the Suriname Football Federation) will vote for the Dutchman Michael van Praag in the election for the president of FIFA for the 2015-2019 period, announced John Krishnadath, the president of the SVB, on 25/04/2015. The election will be held at the Congress of the international federation in Zurich (SUI) on 29/05/2015.

"I have spoken to Michael van Praag last week during the CONCACAF congress, the confederation of North and Central America and the Caribbean. His program appeals to us. For example, his ideas to stimulate and assist the smaller FIFA countries. And his perspective reaches beyond Europe. In addition our common language is a binding factor," said John Krishnadath, the president of the federation of Suriname, a country (formerly Dutch Guiana) whose official language is Dutch, on 25/04/2015.

  • The candidacy of Michael van Praag for the presidency of FIFA was officially supported by six Federations (FIFA statutes imposing a minimum of five): Belgium, Sweden, Scotland, Romania, the Faroe Islands and the Netherlands.
