"The decision issued on 15/01/2015 by the Court of Appeal of Munich (GER) in the case initiated by the speed skater and quintuple Olympic champion Claudia Pechstein is likely to challenge the whole structure that the CAS has been building for the last 30 years," said Charles Amson, a lawyer and specialist in sports law, in an analysis for News Tank, on 18/05/2015.

This case raises the question of whether the decisions of the Court of Arbitration for Sport may be challenged in national courts. "The decision of the Court of Appeal of Munich, the importance of which has been covered very little in the media, has surprised many experts in sports law, who felt that, since the conclusion of the Lazutina case on 27/05/2003 at the Swiss supreme federal court, the issue of the independence of the CAS belonged to the past," added Charles Amson in his analysis for News Tank studying the legal implications of this decision.
