Piracy/LFP: preventive injunction against alternative DNS providers, a "legal first"

"On 17/07, the president of the Paris Judicial Court ordered alternative DNS (Domain Name System) providers to block illegal streaming sites, IPTV services and an application broadcasting Ligue 1 McDonald's and Ligue 2 BKT matches without right, recognising the possibility of obtaining a preventive injunction against these players," said the Ligue de Football Professionnel on 18/07/2025.

"This is a legal first in France: the courts now recognise that DNS providers can also be forced to block access to services illegally broadcasting sporting competitions from the first matchday of the championship. This is a step forward welcomed by the LFP and LFP Media, who see this decision as an additional tool to effectively protect their rights from the start of the 2025-26 season," added the body.

"In accordance with the French Sports Code (article L. 333-10), the LFP and LFP Media will refer the matter to Arcom to extend the blocking to new pirate services identified during the season." The regulatory authority blocked 4,212 illegal sports domain names that illegally broadcast sporting…
