Tennis: appeal against expansion of Wimbledon site to 39 new courts rejected by High Court

The UK High Court dismissed, on 21/07/2025, the appeal brought by Save Wimbledon Park against the planning permission granted by The Greater London Authority (GLA) to the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), organiser of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament (London, GBR), as part of its expansion project aimed at almost tripling the site's capacity.

The GLA approved the AELTC's application on 27/09/2024. The project involves the conversion of the former Wimbledon Park golf course, located close to the historic tournament site. Several associations, including Save Wimbledon Park and the Wimbledon Society, have voiced their opposition, citing an "industrial tennis complex with an unacceptable environmental impact". Save Wimbledon Park says it will "continue to fight" and plans to challenge the High Court's decision.
