IOC: Qatar officially a candidate to host the 2036 Summer Olympic & Paralympic Games

The Qatar Olympic Committee has officially submitted its bid to the International Olympic Committee to host the 2036 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, on 22/07/2025.

Qatar, which would become the first country in the MENA region to host the Games, has recently organised several major international sporting competitions, including the 2024 World Swimming Championships, the 2022 World Cup, the 2019 World Athletics Championships and the 2015 Men's World Handball Championship. The country is also due to host the 2027 FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup, as well as the 2030 Asian Games.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has stated that "the bid builds on Qatar's proven track record of successfully hosting major international sporting events, most notably the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which received global acclaim as the best edition in the tournament's history," according to the body.
