"The 2024-25 season ended with an operating loss of around €1.3bn (€1.1bn in Ligue 1, €200m in Ligue 2). With nearly €800m in capital gains from the sale of players, the net loss is likely to be around €400m. These figures confirm the forecasts we shared with the clubs back in December. Similarly, and unsurprisingly, the budgets presented for the 2025-26 season also show an operating deficit of around €1.3bn," declared Jean-Marc Mickeler, president of the DNCG, on the L'Équipe website on 22/07/2025.

"In 2024-25, the wage bill increased by more than €200m between the budgets presented in May 2024 and the figures given at the latest hearings. When some people say that the problem was the drop in domestic rights, this is inaccurate: most of the discrepancy stems from an increase in expenses that exceeded forecasts. With a wage bill of €1.9bn and equity of just €1.86bn, the situation is becoming untenable.
