England/Women's football: alcohol in the stands to be trialled at 14 stadiums in 2025-26

WSL Football is extending the test relating to the possibility of supporters consuming alcohol in the stands to 14 clubs (seven in Barclays Women's Super League and the same number in Barclays Women's Super League 2, see list below) in 2025-26, announced the commercial company in charge of organising England's top two women's divisions on 24/07/2025.

Although the consumption of alcohol in stadiums has been banned in the United Kingdom since 1985, "the women's professional game is not covered by legislation in the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985 (SECAA 1985) which prohibits the consumption of alcohol in view of the pitch," explained WSL Football.

The 14 clubs which, as of 24/07, are involved in the experiment to be carried out in 2025-26, have "consulted with key stakeholders including official supporter groups, with many venues set to provide the option of purchasing tickets in designated alcohol-free areas."
