Italy: for every €1 invested, State recovers €20.5 in tax & social security revenue (ReportCalcio 2025)

"Football is an increasingly important industrial sector in our country. Total direct revenues amount to almost €7bn, and the tax and social security contribution of the professional sector alone over the last 17 years is close to €20bn. For every euro invested by the Italian government in football (taking into account the contributions paid to the FIGC via CONI and Sport e Salute, the state-owned company that looks after the development of sport in Italy), the national system has obtained a return in tax and social security terms of €20.5, representing in this sense a formidable multiplier of investments," states the ReportCalcio 2025 document published by the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio on 31/07/2025.

This 15^th edition of ReportCalcio, an annual report on Italian and international football, was produced by the Federation's Research Centre in collaboration with AREL (Agenzia di Ricerche e Legislazione/Italian Research and Regulatory Agency) and the consultancy and auditing firm PwC Italia.
