England: Newcastle Falcons becomes Red Bull's first rugby club & is renamed "Newcastle Red Bulls"

Red Bull, an Austrian group specialised in the production and marketing of energy drinks, has acquired "full ownership" of Newcastle Rugby Ltd, the owner of Newcastle Falcons (Gallagher Premiership Rugby), on 12/08/2025.

Founded in 1877 as Gosforth Football Club, the club is now known as Newcastle Red Bulls. Newcastle Rugby was put up for sale at the end of 2024. Red Bull is to assume the club's £39m (€47m) debts, "these include £14.5m in unpaid treasury loans taken out during the Covid-19 pandemic," according to British daily The Guardian, which had previously revealed information about the takeover on 16/06/2025.

The club will remain resident at Kingston Park (10,200 capacity), while Steve Diamond will retain his position as director of rugby, "ensuring continuity and expertise as he prepares the team for the new season and helps to set the foundations for a club that aims to compete for trophies in England and Europe in the coming years."

This is Red Bull's first acquisition in the world of rugby. Until now, the group's presence in the sport has been limited to sponsorship…
