Spain: Amanda Gutiérrez to step down as president of Futpro, the Spanish women's football union

"The deadline for candidacies for the presidency of Futpro having now passed, I would like to publicly announce that I will not be running in the upcoming elections," said Amanda Gutiérrez, lawyer and president of the Spanish union of professional women football players since its creation in December 2021, in a statement published on social media on 12/08/2025.

Applications could be submitted until 11/08/2025 inclusive. The official list of candidates is due to be published on Monday 18/08/2025, "marking the start of the postal and proxy voting phases, in accordance with the electoral regulations." Voting will close and the results will be announced at the Futpro general assembly to be held on Monday 15/09/2025.

"Futpro is an association composed exclusively of female footballers playing in Spain, whose objective is to defend the labour rights of female players by promoting change and progress in the world of football," as stated on the union's website.

Amanda Gutiérrez, who has never been a professional footballer, said that her decision was based on three "very clear convictions":
