FIFA Club World Cup: frequency, number of participants... changes under consideration

"The Club World Cup takes place every four years," states FIFA in its regulations for the competition (article 1.2), which were adopted by the International Federation's Council on 03/10/2024 and came into force on the same day (document available to download).

The first edition was held in the United States from 14/06 to 13/07/2025. The second is scheduled to take place in a country to be determined in 2029. However, according to the British daily newspaper The Guardian on 17/08/2025, the frequency of this global event could then become biennial (every odd-numbered year), under pressure from the big clubs who took part in the event in June-July, such as Real Madrid CF (LALIGA EA Sports), and others who were excluded, such as FC Barcelona (LALIGA EA Sports), Manchester United FC and Liverpool FC (Premier League) and SSC Napoli (Serie A Enilive), the reigning Italian champions.

These are all clubs that have subscribed to the Champions League, but which are victims of two limitations when it comes to the Club World Cup:
