NBA: acquisition of the Boston Celtics by a group led by William Chisholm finalised ($6.1bn)

The acquisition of the Boston Celtics by a group of investors led by William Chisholm (co-founder of investment fund Symphony Technology Group), unanimously approved by the National Basketball Association's board of governors on 13/08, has been completed, announced the NBA franchise on 19/08/2025. The deal, announced on 20/03, is with Boston Basketball Partners, the private group that owns the Celtics, for $6.1bn (€5.59bn).

Wycliffe Grousbeck, founder of Boston Basketball Partners and who remains a shareholder in the franchise, will retain his position as CEO, while 'Bill' Chisholm will represent the Boston Celtics on the league's board of governors. Wycliffe Grousbeck and Aditya Mittal, CEO of ArcelorMittal (steel), who was also involved in the purchase of the franchise, will also serve as alternate governors.
