Football League: Channel 5 acquires TV rights to summaries of matches for 2015-2018

The British free-TV network Channel 5 has acquired the UK audiovisual rights to summaries of matches from the Sky Bet Football League, the Capital One Cup and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy for the 2015- 2018 period, a total of 1,813 games per season, announced the Football League, which manages the English second, third and fourth divisions on 05/05/2015.

For the 2012-15 cycle, these rights are held by the British public broadcaster BBC. The deal, which is a "multi-million pound contract" according to the Football League, also sees Channel 5 bring forward the broadcasting of match summaries to prime time, a first for the summaries of Football League matches.

The 90-minute programme will air at 21:00 every Saturday night, while the BBC 1 programme aired at midnight, after "Match of the Day" (summaries of Premier League matches), which begins every Saturday at 22:45. Football League summaries and will therefore be broadcast before Premier League matches on British television.
