MultiChoice: Canal+'s takeover finalised, marking the group's "largest transaction ever"

"Canal+ and MultiChoice Group (MCG) have today announced that the mandatory takeover offer by Canal+ for the shares of MultiChoice Group it does not already own has become unconditional, with all necessary regulatory conditions complete. Canal+ is now in effective control of MultiChoice Group," announced the French pay-TV and free-to-air group on 22/09/2025.

MultiChoice, South Africa's leading pay-TV operator and owner of the pay-TV sports group Supersport International, boasts more than 20 million subscribers in seven sub-Saharan African countries (English- and Portuguese-speaking).

On 08/04/2024, the Canal+ group announced that it was launching a takeover bid to acquire all the shares in the MultiChoice group that it did not already own, at a purchase price of R125 per share (€6.18 on 09/04/2024).
