Piracy/LFP: first injunction in France to take preventive action against search engines

"On 18/09/2025, the president of the Paris Judicial Court ordered that the search engines Google and Bing remove illegal streaming sites and IPTV services broadcasting Ligue 1 McDonald's and Ligue 2 BKT matches without permission from their search results. The LFP and LFP Media welcome the court's recognition of the LFP's right to obtain, for the first time in France, a preventive injunction against these actors," announced the Ligue de Football Professionnel on 22/09/2025.

"In accordance with the French Sports Code (Article L. 333-10), the LFP and LFP Media will refer the matter to Arcom to extend the delisting to new pirate services identified during the season," added the body.

This new ruling follows on from recent decisions handed down by the Paris Judicial Court to combat the piracy of sports broadcasts in France:
• on 18/07, ordering "blocking measures against the companies NordVPN, CyberGhost and ProtonVPN, at the request of beIN SPORTS FRANCE, the exclusive holder of the rights to broadcast the 2025 season of the WTA tournament on French territory";
