TV rights in Spain: "We will not yield to the blackmail of the federation" (Javier Tebas, La Liga)

Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, asked the Spanish government, on 07/05/2015, "to maintain and not touch even a single comma of the royal decree" which was published on 30/04/2015, which allows the collective sale of broadcasting rights Spanish professional competitions from 2016-17 (La Liga is in charge of the audiovisual rights to the Liga BBVA and the Liga Adelante, the RFEF in charge of the rights for the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup).

The board of directors of the RFEF announced, on 06/05/2015, that it was indefinitely suspending all Spanish domestic competitions as of 16/05/2015 in protest against the signing of the royal decree of 30/04/2015. The decree notably determined that clubs of the Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante will be obliged to pay 1% of their audiovisual revenue each year to the RFEF, but only after paying off their tax and social security debts. The RFEF had hoped to acquire between 4% and 5% of the audiovisual rights to the Liga BBVA and the Liga Adelante, according to the Spanish press in March 2015.
