Ticket touting: Liverpool FC issued 1,114 lifetime stadium bans & closes 45,000 fake accounts in 2024-25

Liverpool FC (Premier League) issued "a record 1,114 lifetime bans" in 2024-25 as part of its fight against ticket scalping and the sale of fake tickets, up from 75 in 2023-24, announced the club on 25/09/2025.

"The majority of lifetime bans and indefinite suspensions were handed down for unauthorised selling of season tickets, memberships or hospitality tickets, in breach of the club's terms and conditions. Investigators for the club also shut down 162 social media groups - with a combined membership of more than one million users - that were involved in selling fake tickets that never materialised or reselling real tickets at extortionate rates," explained the Merseyside club. In addition, 45,000 fake ticketing accounts have been closed following reports from LFC, while the club is "currently investigating a further 10,000 accounts."

These fake account closures are down from 100,000 in 2023-24, the season in which Liverpool introduced multi-factor authentication on its platforms.
