AC Milan/Inter Milan: sale of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza to the two clubs approved by the City Council

The Milan City Council (Lombardy, Italy) approved (24 votes in favour, 20 against, 2 abstentions), on Tuesday 30/09/2025, at 03:46 CET (after an 11-hour meeting), the proposal to acquire the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (in the San Siro district, west of the city) and its surrounding areas for €197m, submitted jointly by FC Inter Milan and AC Milan (Serie A Enilive).

This decision is a major step forward for the two clubs' plans to build a new stadium, for which they entered into a partnership with British architects Foster + Partners and American architects Manica on 23/09/2025.

The new 71,500-seat stadium is to be built next to the existing Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (75,725 capacity), owned by the City of Milan and occupied by the two clubs under an occupancy agreement (due to run until 2030), for which they each pay a rent of around €8m per year. The San Siro is due to be partially demolished.

The provisional sale agreement will be signed on 10/11/2025, when Inter and AC Milan will pay the first instalment of the purchase price (€73m of the €197m planned, i.e. 37%). Work on the new stadium…
