Germany: ARD and ZDF acquires the broadcast rights to 2015 Euro U-21

The German public television channels ARD and ZDF acquired the broadcasting rights, in Germany, for the 2015 Euro Under-21 tournament (Czech Republic, from 17 to 30/06/2015), on 08/05/2015.

"ARD and ZDF will broadcast live all matches of the German national team," said Dieter Gruschwitz, the sports director of ZDF, to the Internet edition of Sport Bild on 08/05/2015. The distribution of the matches between ARD and ZDF has not yet been disclosed.

  • ARD and ZDF have a joint venture for the acquisition of their sports media rights: SportA agency.
  • The group phase of the Euro Under-21 (two groups of four teams) will take place from 17 to 24/06/2015
    • Semi-finals: on 27/06/2015
    • The Olympics play-off (needed to determine the fourth team to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics, in case England proceed to the the semi-finals): on 28/06/2015
    • Final: on 30/06/2015
  • Germany won the Euro Under-21 torunament for the last time in 2009.
    • The winning team included Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Sami Khedira, Mats Hummels and Mesut Özil, all members of the 2014 Germany world champions squad.
