SPFL: "The popularity of Scottish football is not in doubt" (Neil Doncaster, chief executive)

"The popularity of Scottish football is not in doubt, with Scotland having the highest attendances per capita anywhere in Europe (see below)," declared Neil Doncaster, chief executive of the Scottish Professional Football League, to News Tank Football on 13/10/2025.

"Our objective is to try to achieve the right balance between the generation of broadcast income and the generation of income from stadium attendance," continued the chief executive of the Scottish league, who also serves as a non-executive director at European Leagues and as a member of UEFA's Control, Ethics & Disciplinary Body.

"For the third year in a row, UEFA has reported that Scottish football leads Europe for attendances, and that passion is also reflected in the fantastic support we continue to see from broadcasters and partners. It's great to see the league continuing to make real progress - and these results really do mark an important milestone for the SPFL," said Doncaster.
