USA/Women's football: Jessica Berman given 3-year extension as NWSL commissioner until the 2028 season

Jessica Berman (USA), commissioner of the NWSL since April 2022, has been given a three-year contract extension, that will see her continued to hold the position until the 2028 season, following a vote by the league's executive committee in early October, according to multiple media reports.

In her role Berman, who also serves as co-chair of the Women's Leagues Forum, a global alliance of professional women's football leagues and governing bodies, alongside England's Nikki Doucet, CEO of Women's Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL), has contributed to the NWSL's commercial growth, the expansion of the league (14 clubs in 2025 to 16 in 2026 with the additions of Boston's BOS Nation FC and a Denver-based team), and rising team valuations from around $5m to over $250m in her time at the head of the American league.

Jessica Berman succeeded Lisa Baird who resigned as commissioner in October 2021 after holding the position for 19 months following allegations that a former NWSL coach had engaged in sexual harassment and misconduct. Baird was replaced by Marla Messing, who served as interim…
