Tennis: ATP Masters 1000 in Saudi Arabia from 2028, 1^st addition to the circuit since it began in 1990

The Association of Tennis Professionals and SURJ Sports Investment, a sports investment company owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), have announced the creation of a new ATP Masters 1000 in Saudi Arabia, to be played from 2028 on 23/10/2025. This is the first tournament to be added to this category (the 2^nd most important after the Grand Slam tournaments) since the creation of the men's professional circuit in 1990.

This initiative "underscores PIF's long-term commitment to shaping the future of international tennis and global sport," according to the two parties, and builds on the existing strategic partnership between the ATP and the PIF, entered into on 28/02/2024, which notably includes the naming rights for the men's rankings, the "PIF ATP". Saudi Arabia has already hosted the WTA Tour Finals in Riyadh since 2024 (for which the PIF has been a global partner since 20/05/2024), as well as the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah since 2023.
