Transfers: France, country whose home-grown players have generated the most revenue (€3.98bn) since 2016

France is the country whose clubs generated the most revenue from the international transfer of home-grown players (including add-ons & sell-ons) between 2016 and 2025, with a cumulative total of €3.98bn "an average of almost €400m per year," according to the CIES Football Observatory's "Weekly Post" published on 29/10/2025.

Two other nations generated more than €2bn from the international transfer of home-grown players over the same period: Brazil (€2.6bn) and Spain (€2.24bn). Six other countries, including five European ones (Portugal, Netherlands, England, Germany and Italy) and Argentina, generated more than €1bn (see rankings below).

In France, players in the 21-23 age group generated the most revenue (39%), ahead of those aged 20 or under (26.4%), 24-26 (24.8%) and 27 or over (9.8%).
