UEFA "abused its dominant position" by attempting to prevent the creation of an alternative European competition in 2021, ruled the Provincial Court of Madrid (ESP) on 29/10/2025, in relation to the debate surrounding the European Super League project launched on 18/04/2021 by A22 Sports Management.

"UEFA and FIFA abused their dominant position by granting themselves discretionary power to ban (European clubs) from participating in alternative competitions. They are hindering free competition in the market by imposing unjustified and disproportionate restrictions on the Super League," according to a document consulted by AFP, which confirms the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) of 21/12/2023.

"The defendants' action was not only aimed at preventing the implementation of a specific project (that of a European Super League), but also at preventing the arrival of a third competitor (alongside FIFA and UEFA) and the modification of the monopolistic system of competition organisation," ruled the Madrid court.
