Spain: players' strike scheduled for 16/05/2015 suspended, arbitration between the league and AFE

The chamber of social affairs, the leading Spanish criminal court, decided, on 14/05/2015, to indefinitely suspend the strike action planned by Spanish professional football players convened by the AFE, their union, starting from 16/05/2015. This suspension is subject to the payment, by La Liga, of a guarantee of €5m, made in the afternoon of 14/05/2015.

In his decision, the magistrate Ricardo Bodas Martin ruled a players' strike would prevent the conclusion of professional football competitions and would cause "serious organisational chaos". "It would be very difficult to cope with the international commitments of Spain and the clubs themselves, and would raise the problem of holiday dates of the players," the judge wrote as part of the decision from the chamber of social affairs of the Spanish national court.
