Germany: FC Ingolstadt, supported by Audi, promoted to the Bundesliga for the 2015-16 season

The FC Ingolstadt 04 became the champions of the 2014-15 2.Bundesliga, and are officially promoted to the 2015-16 Bundesliga, following their victory (2-1) against RB Leipzig (Matchday 33 out of 34) on 17/05/2015. The club, founded in 2004 following the merger of two teams in the city, will play in the German first division for the first time in their history.

The Bavarian club are strongly supported by the German automobile manufacturer Audi, whose headquarters is located in the city of 126,000 inhabitants, halfway between Nuremberg and Munich. The automaker is the main shirt sponsor of the club until 2017-18. The contract is valued at €2m per season and could be revalued with the promotion to the Bundesliga. The automaker also holds the naming rights to the Audi Sportpark (15,800 seats), which was opened in July 2010 after 14 months of construction.

  • Through its subsidiary quattro GmbH, Audi holds 19.94% of the shares in FC Ingolstadt 04. The remaining 80.06% is owned by the club's association "FC Ingolstadt 04 Fußball e.V."
