Professional football in Spain generated a gross value added of €7.6bn in 2013, or 0.75% of the Spanish GDP, reveals the Spanish office of the auditing firm KPMG in a report entitled "The Socioeconomic Impact of professional football in Spain", and published on 14/05/2015.

"We expect the football industry to grow by 1% in the space of 6 years," stated Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, on 14/05/2015. Professional football in Spain generates 140,000 full time jobs, of which 47% (about 65,800) directly, and contributed €2.898bn of taxes in 2013, according to the KPMG report.

Professional football in Spain "(currently) provides 0.75% of the GDP, making us (Spanish football industry) equal to some of the country’s other important sectors. And we are going to continue growing. Football will amount to more than €2.9bn for the Spanish exchequer (treasury), once our debt has been cleared. That debt currently stands at €400m and we expect it to be paid in full within two years," added Javier Tebas.
