Ligue 2 BKT: "The new stadium project is over" (Laurent Nicollin, Montpellier Hérault SC)

"The new stadium project is finished, it's over. At some point, I'd had enough last season, it was complicated for me on many levels, both physically and mentally. I'm 52 years old and I'm not going to die on the sidelines of a football pitch," said Laurent Nicollin, president of Montpellier Hérault Sport Club (Ligue 2 BKT), to the French regional daily Midi Libre on 20/11/2025.

Laurent Nicollin has thus confirmed the end of the project to build a new stadium in Pérols (Hérault). "At a time when all the planets are aligning for Pérols, the Banque des Territoires has informed us that it is no longer supporting us to the tune of €100m. This project was vital and it's vital for the club, especially with the decrease in TV rights revenue. If we had the new stadium, we'd have financial spin-offs and I wouldn't have to sell players in January."

The president had already told the weekly Le Journal du Dimanche on 17/03/2024: "I'm tired. It's already cost the family holding company €4m. We're willing to make an effort, but personally, I've had enough, I'm fed up (...) Maybe this umpteenth…
