Portugal: the airline Emirates becomes the shirt sponsor of SL Benfica until 2017-18

The Emirates airline became the shirt sponsor of SL Benfica (POR, Liga NOS) until the end of the 2017-18 season, announced the club on 19/05/2015.

The contract is estimated at €8m per season, excluding bonuses, by the Portuguese newspaper Expresso. This agreement is almost double the amount paid by the group Portugal Telecom for visibility on the shirt of the of Lisbon club in 2014-15. The Emirati company has already been an official partner of the club since July 2014. Emirates is also under agreement with the Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid CF).

• SL Benfica generated €184.7m in turnover for the 2013-14 fiscal year.

• The airline has offered a Dubai - Lisbon connection since July 2012.
  • A second daily connection between the two cities will open in early 2016.
• Emirates is a partner of the Portugal Masters golf tournament (from 09 to 12/10/2014 in Vilamoura, POR), part of the European Tour.
